Hi, my name is Feargal Geraghty. I am a sport scientist, chartered physiotherapist and clinic director and owner at Thera-Fitness, a private practice in Galway, Ireland.
Locally, I have worked with Galway United FC as head of chartered physiotherapy and fitness in their transition from part time to full time professional football. My job at Galway United FC was delineated by the provision of sport injury cover, physiotherapy, fitness, injury prevention (known as pre-rehabilitation) and rehabilitation.
Thera fitness is in operation nearly a decade now at Drom Soccer Complex, Galway. In the Drom we work closely with the resident soccer club, Salthill Devon FC, in terms of physiotherapy, fitness and strength and conditioning.
Prior to setting up my existing company, I worked with professional football players in two Premier League Football Clubs in the UK, dealing with the treatment and management of injuries.
Working as a performance physiotherapist, I worked with sports professionals by assessing biomechanical weaknesses in their bodies and developed strength and conditioning programs to reduce injury incidence and promote performance on the field, whilst also managing their injuries.
I also worked with a leading international sport agency, dealing with professional and international athletes. In this time, I managed to work with elite athletes in Australia during the Sydney 2000 Olympics.
I have gained a wealth of experience working with the international sporting elite but often times have gained more satisfaction dealing with local residents in my private practice at Thera-Fitness in Galway.
I have completed honours degrees in Sport rehabilitation and Sport science, Physiotherapy, Masters in Sport Medicine and am currently completing my medical training in the US for my MD degree, whilst continually working in the physical therapy field, and although not available for appointments at the Galway clinic at this time, I extend my warm welcome to our clinic and Dave, our highly experienced Director of Physiotherapy and staff who look forward to taking exceptional care of you!!
David Gow is our Clinical Physiotherapy Director.
David is fully qualified chartered physiotherapist and graduated from University College Dublin in 2012. David has returned home after spending the last few years living and working as a physiotherapist in New Zealand, gaining an abundance of experience in private practice.
Davids’ treatment philosophy revolves around understanding the many factors that may have caused the injury in the first place. In a lot of cases, patients will have an uncontrolled stress response that nudges the patient into a state of disrepair instead of regeneration. It is Davids’ job to address this and correct the factors that are contributing to the patients dysfunction or pain while teaching the patient self management. Improvement of the patient should also include an adaptation of posture, breath and mindset that denotes health on all levels.
David favours hands on treatment such as myofascial release therapy, deep tissue release therapy, trigger point therapy and dry needling. I also use cupping therapy, exercise prescription and manual therapy. In November 2017, David will complete a 200 hour yoga teacher training in Goa, India.
